Sustainable steel – ULCOS is working on it

Take a look at an animation which demonstrates some of the processes being developed to advance Ultra–Low Carbon dioxide (CO2) Steelmaking…

ULCOS stands for Ultra-Low CO2 Steelmaking. The programme, which was launched in 2004, regroups all major EU steel companies as well as several energy and engineering partners, research institutes and universities and is supported by the European Commission. The programme's goal is to reduce CO2 emissions in steelmaking processes by at least 50% compared to current best practice.

GMB Member Michel Wurth is Chairman of the ESTEP ( European Steel Technology Platform). ArcelorMittal is the industrial coordinator of the ULCOS consortium, which brings together 48 European companies, universities and laboratories all working towards achieving significant CO2 reductions in steel production.
