Energy Star Partner of the Year

The ArcelorMittal USA Energy Reduction Initiative was launched in January 2006 and provided a plan that would allow ArcelorMittal to decrease its energy and carbon intensity and improve its bottom line.
ArcelorMittal USA was challenged by corporate management to reduce energy intensity by six percent over a three-year time period using 2005 as the baseline. This equates to a reduction of $192 million in energy costs within three years.
A key element for making the ArcelorMittal USA Energy Reduction Initiative a success from the start was the support that was given to this effort – from the Mittal family, to USA and plant management, to those working on the shop floor.
Another contributor to our success is the partnership ArcelorMittal established with ENERGY STAR®, which helped the company become more energy-efficient while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. ENERGY STAR® offered a proven energy-management strategy that helped measure current energy performance, set goals, track savings and reward improvements.
Over the past two years, ArcelorMittal was able to achieve these savings by reductions in natural gas, fuel oil and purchased electricity. ArcelorMittal also worked hard to spread the word about energy conservation – and the ENERGY STAR® program – to our employees, families, suppliers and end users, even the general public.
