Industry research centres

ArcelorMittal has a dedicated R&D centre for Industry markets.

The Industry R&D sites are located in Gent and Liège, both in Belgium.

Gent

The Gent research site is working in close partnership with Industry clients:

  • To develop new substrates in the fields of electrical steels, enamelling steels, hot & cold rolled steels and tubes & plates
  • To develop innovative metallic coatings to improve anti-corrosion properties and to provide new functionalities
  • To develop user manuals to help our clients in the use of new products
  • To solve client technical problems
  • To anticipate client needs
  • To act as a driving force for proposing innovative technical solutions

For more information about other research activities, please visit the OCAS website.

Liège

The Liège research site is working in close partnership with Industry clients:

  • To develop new coating technologies, such as PVD (Plasma Vacuum Deposition) offering environmentally friendly new products and functionalities as high reflectivity, anti bacteria, self cleaning, self lighting etc.
  • To speed up the development of organic coatings thanks to innovative processes to answer the needs of Industry markets
  • To assure the reliability and to improve the performance of industrial lines by controlling key processes to assure quality and cost improvement
  • To conceive and develop innovative solutions fulfilling the future requirements of constructions by using steel in all its forms and in combination with competitor materials

Both research teams work in close collaboration. They dispose of state-of-the-art engineering software programs, facilities for analyses, homologation, tests, forming techniques, assembling, painting, corrosion etc.
