Anti-corrosion solutions
Objective
ArcelorMittal wants to propose new solutions to cut the cost of corrosion protection for car makers.
Main activities
- Development of new highly corrosion-resistant coatings as cost competitive alternatives to replace the secondary measures for corrosion protection (e.g application of waxes and sealers aiming at preventing perforating corrosion and corrosion on cut edges)
- Technical support to clients in the field of corrosion (e.g. understanding and solving of corrosion problems, testing of coatings to be self agreed)
General approach
- Complete elaboration and characterisation of new metallic coatings
- Intensive collaborations with resin suppliers to evaluate new organic coatings: low cost solutions with high level of performances (both on EG substrate and on GI substrate)
- Development of methodologies to evaluate corrosion as it occurs on vehicles (perforating corrosion, corrosion on edges etc.). A special effort is made to propose and validate methods to enable to quantify corrosion damage precisely (by laser triangulation for instance)
Main anti-corrosion competences
Corrosion during storage of the coil
- Temporary corrosion resistance
- Efficiency of inhibitive solutions/oils
- Corrosion resistance of coated/uncoated steel
Corrosion on vehicles
- Perforation corrosion resistance
- Cosmetic corrosion resistance
- Influence of painting conditions on corrosion resistance
- Influence of forming on corrosion resistance
