ArcelorMittal Gent (the new name of Sidmar) is a maritime and integrated steelworks. We handle every step of the production process ourselves, from the supply of raw materials to the coating of steel and the production of laser-welded blanks. As we are the most highly integrated steel producer in the ArcelorMittal group, knowledge is smoothly and quickly disseminated among our various departments. Each year we produce 5 million tonnes of flat steel sheet for our automotive customers and for all kinds of high-quality applications such as domestic appliances and furniture.

ArcelorMittal Gent is located on the right bank of the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, about 20 km from the centre of the city of Ghent. Employing approximately 5,000 people, we are the largest private employer of the province of East Flanders. The knowledge and dedication of our employees constitute some of our major advantages. Since June 2006, ArcelorMittal Gent has been part of ArcelorMittal, the largest steel group in the world. This steel giant has operations in 20 countries and employs over 310,000 people. With a global production of 116 million tonnes of steel in 2007, ArcelorMittal is the number one steel producer in five subcontinents: North America, South America, Africa, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Moreover, the Group is the largest foreign steel producer in China.

Moreover, Mining has become an important ArcelorMittal activity. The group adapts a clear growth strategy and strives after raw material self-sufficiency.

At the other end of the value chain, ArcelorMittal’s high-quality finished products are to be found. Flat carbon steel products, as produced by ArcelorMittal Gent, are used in the automotive sector, as well as in industrial applications, such as domestic appliances, sanitary fittings, mechanical engineering, packaging and so on. In order to continue to guarantee top product quality and to develop new products, we work together with ArcelorMittal's customers and research centres.


The sale of all these products (hot rolled coils, cold rolled uncoated coils and coated products) is handled by the ArcelorMittal commercial organisation. This organisation provides a service that meets justifiable expectations and real needs. It aims to offer clients precisely the products and services they need. In short, it provision of services, knowledge and experience are at the total disposal of the clients. The team consists of commercial, technical and logistics experts. They will ensure that clients reach their company targets faster and more easily. Maintaining a business partner relationship with the commercial organisation is simply an extra benefit to the company.

ArcelorMittal has a clear mission: establishing itself as a worldwide reference in steel industry. This can be achieved by observing three values:

In addition, in 2007 the ArcelorMittal group published a "Code of business conduct" describing the basic values and ethical standards that every employee worldwide must observe. Everyone carries individual responsibility. The Code of business conduct has a broad content: it concerns health and safety, equal opportunities, compliance with laws and regulations, and so on.
