9th Environmental Charter for ArcelorMittal Gent

On 7 June 2012, ArcelorMittal Gent was presented with the East Flanders Environmental Charter for the 9th consecutive year. The Environmental Charter is an initiative by the East Flanders Chamber of Commerce. By awarding this Charter it intends to encourage companies in East Flanders to pursue an active environmental policy, with an eye towards continuously improving their environmental performances as well as the living conditions in the surrounding areas.

Only those companies that go beyond the statutory obligations for improving their environmental performances are eligible for this recognition.

Visit of an evaluation team

Before presenting the award, an evaluation team composed of representatives of several environmental authorities visited ArcelorMittal Gent to verify whether the submitted Environmental Charter programme had been realised. The evaluation team also made certain that our organisation operates in accordance with environmental regulations.

Following the evaluation team’s report, the Environmental Charter evaluation committee decided to award the Environmental Charter to ArcelorMittal Gent. M. Jozef Dauwe, Deputy of the province of East Flanders and responsible for environment, and M. Geert Moerman, Managing Director of VOKA – the East Flanders Chambers of Commerce – presented the award at the Provincial Administrative Centre in Gent on 7 June 2012.

This award is highly valuable to ArcelorMittal Gent as it is a public recognition for our commitment towards sustainable development.

After visiting ArcelorMittal Gent, the evaluation team drew up a positive report.
