Ceremony recognises global success at FT ArcelorMittal Boldness awards

Lakshmi Mittal, chairman and chief executive of ArcelorMittal, and Financial Times editor Lionel Barber hosted the second annual FT ArcelorMittal Boldness in Business Awards on 25 February in central London.

Award winners came from all corners of the globe with Brazilian mining company Vale, Chinese solar energy business Suntech and Irish oil and gas company Tullow Oil each being recognised for their achievements.

Lionel Barber, Financial Times editor, praised the standard of the shortlist. He said: "In what was undoubtedly a difficult year for business across the globe, we were impressed with the strong competition for each award. I congratulate each of the winners on their outstanding commitment to building their business which will in turn strengthen the economy and drive global business forward."

The event, which saw keynote speeches from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and UK media entrepreneur Peter Bazalgette, played host to an impressive guest list including Sergio Marchionne, CEO, Fiat; Blake Chandlee, Facebook and Sir Ian Blair, Former Metropolitan Police Commissioner.

The evening's winners were:
Driver of Change - Fiat
Corporate Responsibility - Standard Chartered
Environment - Suntech
Emerging Markets - Vale
Entrepreneurs - Tullow Oil
Newcomer - Twitter
Person of the Year - Jamie Dimon, chief executive of JP Morgan

Speaking at the award ceremony, Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO, ArcelorMittal, said: "This year's winners really personify boldness because they've had the courage to make tough decisions and successfully lead their Companies through the most challenging economic period in recent history. It's at times like this that bold decision makers are most important, they are the ones who can save businesses and turn adversity into opportunity."
