Health and Safety Policy
ArclorMittal's Health and Safety policy
One of the first priorities after the formation of ArcelorMittal was the creation of a new Health and Safety policy for the whole group. The aim was to draw on the best practices and standards from both of the merged companies, and the new policy was launched in March 2007, at a specially-convened conference of over 100 ArcelorMittal Health and Safety specialists across the world.
Alongside the new policy there is now a standardised Health and Safety model, which applies throughout the group. This makes it easier for us to learn from good ideas, and share learning. For example, we now have a single global injury tracking and reporting database. This allows us to analyse the cause of any accident, and use that feedback to improve our preventative measures.
We're also training all our managers to carry out shop floor safety audits in the plants. The aim is to undertake at least 1,000 of these every month.

The Global Health and Safety committee
The group-wide Heath and Safety policy is overseen by a global committee made up from representatives for each of the business areas.
The committee meets four times a year, and takes responsibility for agreeing new processes, and ensuring that all group companies are conforming to our overall standards.
