Engaging with our communities
Community engagement is an important area for many companies, but in a sector like ours, it's an essential part of how we do business.
We know we can have a large impact on local communities, and we accept the additional accountability that comes with that. We always aim to act in a spirit of openness and honesty, since we know that's the only way to develop genuine trust. We encourage ongoing and transparent dialogue with community stakeholders throughout all of our operations. We do this because we believe the best answers are those that are developed together, and our local community engagement programmes are designed with this in mind.
In 2008, we started a major push to train and support our local plants on the principles and best practices of community engagement. We also instituted a new a Group-wide Community Engagement standard that every site has to observe.
