Shared Service Centers
The Shared Service Centres (or more specifically Finance or Accounting Shared Service Centres) are a network of entities worldwide, which operations are to provide financial services for its controlled companies, at a support 'shared service' platform. The centres offer transaction based processes for its customers. The benefits from such centres are reaching higher productivity, reducing working capital, reducing expense, reducing systems, achieving process and system standardisation, improving control over the serviced business units and improving service levels by implementing best practices across the business.
Communities of best practices
Within the Shared Services Centres a very important role is played by the Financial and Accounting Communities of Practice, combining all issues related to creating, implementing, managing a shared service centre, benchmarking the processes each centre serves and guaranteeing continuous improvement. A common tool is being set up for the exchange of knowledge, experience and information among both present employees and experts, as well as any future experts who will be setting up a shared service centre or improving the processes.
There are several successfully finished Shared Service Centre projects in ArcelorMittal which created fully operational centres:
- South Africa (Vanderbijlpark)
- Brazil (Belo Horizonte)
- Spain (Asturias)
- France (Florange)
- Belgium (Brussels)
- USA (Burns Harbor)
- Eastern Europe (Poland)
Each Shared Service Centre provides a wide range of financial services - processes, such as: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Travels and Expenses, Payroll, Asset management, Reporting & Control etc. Most of them are are also able to deliver a full service for small companies.
