ArcelorMittal Zenica and local community
Again this year, the ArcelorMittal Foundation provides support to many institutions and organizations of the local community.
In the first nine month of the current year the Company has completed 85 % of the projects planned for 2008, which presents full implementation of the plan in this period.
By careful selection of the projects, support has been provided to many areas of social life that are important for the local community, such as education, health, culture, sport and the number of direct and indirect beneficiaries of our support reaches number of 400,000.
ArcelorMittal Zenica proudly presents some of the beneficiaries of the ArcelorMittal Foundation for 2008:
- Education: Primary Special School Zenica, University in Zenica, IT Representation of BH, Scout Organization of Zenica.
- Culture: Bosnian National Theatre Zenica, Artistic Cultural Association "Željezara" Zenica, Zenica City Library, Publishing House "Vrijeme" Zenica, City Symphony Orchestra Zenica.
- Local community: Orphanage "Dom i porodica" Zenica."
- Sport: School of Basketball "Čelik" Zenica, Football Club "Čelik" Zenica, Athletic Association BH - Athletic Club Zenica, Rafting Cup BiH.
- Others: Zenica Municipality, Foreign Investment Promotion Agency BH, Bosnian Pyramids.

Volunteer Work Day
On 25 October 2008 ArcelorMittal Zenica organized Volunteer Work Day.
Volunteer spirit in ArcelorMittal Zenica
The 1st global ArcelorMittal Volunteer Work Day was held on December 5, 2008. Some weeks before that date, our colleagues from ArcelorMittal Zenica, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, already got a taste of it by organising several 1-day volunteer activities.
On October 25, 2008 almost 200 employees of the Company volunteered in the cleaning of river banks in Bosnia, planting trees and cleaning the children's playgrounds in the central park of Zenica. The action elapsed in very good spirit of all participants and the results were visible.
Improving the environment of Zenica
During the event, ArcelorMittal Zenica's CEO handed over gifts from the Company to the Mayor of Zenica: 20 park benches, rubbish bins and tree seedlings set up along the river. It was emphasised that this gesture is only the beginning of a future in close cooperation between the Company and the Municipality in joint action of improvement of the environment in the town.
This voluntary action was warmly welcomed by local authorities, as well as by citizens of the town. All local media gave well deserved attention to the event.
