Our approach to environment
Environment
MOTTO:
The application of an integrated approach to pollution limitation is one of the most important tools of ArcelorMittal Ostrava for further decreasing adverse impacts of its production activities on the environment.
At present time, the decreasing of environmental load is ensured principally by the following:
| - | by decreasing production and the number of operated pollution sources, |
| - | by the implementation of environmental measures (in the areas of air protection, water protection and waste handling), |
| - | by introducing the Integrated Management System (IMS) in the Company. |
The part of the Integrated Management System is the Environmental Management System – EMS (according to ČSN EN ISO 14001), which consists mainly of:
| - | defining and regular updates of the so-called environmental policy as part of the policy of the IMS, |
| - | evaluation and renewal of EMS in all production plants, |
| - | setting, evaluating and updating EMS aims. |
In July 2007, ArcelorMittal launched its environmental policy. The policy sets out our approach towards the environment through the definition of ten main principles that will guide ArcelorMittal practices worldwide. The policy was approved by the Group Management Board. See the principles here.
