36 new students have been included to the scholarship program of ArcelorMittal

Ostrava, September 16 – This year a total of 36 new students joined apprentice and high school programs in which they will be getting ready for jobs in ArcelorMittal Ostrava and its subsidiaries. Ctirad Lolek, HR director of ArcelorMittal Ostrava personally gave them certificates that confirm their inclusion to the company scholarship program. “We started this program last year and our aim is to support motivation and interest of students in steel making and mechanical engineering fields of studies,” Lolek said. Currently there are 185 students in five high schools in Ostrava who are getting ready for jobs in ArcelorMittal Ostrava.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava is interested in a continuing development of high school and university programs in the region focusing on steel making and mechanical engineering fields of studies. For this reason the company supports the students in these schools both financially as well as by practical help. “Students who are included to our scholarship program receive not only scholarship but also the possibility of increasing their expertise by practical training directly in the company and they have also assurance of jobs after completion of their studies,” added HR director of the company.

One of the supported educational institutions is the Ostrava – Kunčice high school. The school right now has 1200 students of which 120 are getting ready for future jobs in ArcelorMittal Ostrava or its subsidiary ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Ostrava. „Our students get scholarships from ArcelorMittal Ostrava starting from 500 up to 4000 crowns per month. Right now some 115 students receive the scholarship,“ explained the schoolmaster František Repka. And the students earn even more money during their practical training directly in the mill.

The program aiming at development of high school education in ArcelorMittal Ostrava includes also financial support of specialized high schools. The company financially contributes to projects that support development of the school not only in the closest time period but also in the horizon of future development. “The important thing for us is that ArcelorMittal Ostrava is our long-term partner. Their support for our school has continued without interruption for fifty years already. This is probably unique in the entire Czech Republic,” appreciated Repka.
