Arcelor Piombino is presently one of the most qualified producers in the European Iron and Steel Industry. Inaugurated in 1891 as the sole Italian producer of tin-plated sheet metal, it is currently the leader in the production of zinc coated, prepainted laminated steel. For nearly one hundred years, Arcelor Piombino was listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. In July 1998 it became part of Usinor Group, first European steel producer, and since February 2002 has been part of the Arcelor Group, which is the first Worldwide Producer of Steel. In July 2006 Arcelor launched a merger with Mittal Group thus creating Arcelor - Mittal, the world leader of the steel industry.
