New fire engine for firemen in Dąbrowa Górnicza

ArcelorMittal Poland has donated PLN 350 000 to the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Dąbrowa Górnicza for the purchase of a modern fire engine. The vehicle will be used in the area of Dąbrowa Górnicza and Sławków.

Until now, the State Fire Service unit in Dąbrowa Górnicza has been using a 17-year-old model of a heavy fire engine. The value of a new vehicle amounts to PLN 920,000. To buy it, the Municipal HQs of the State Fire Service had to collect half of that amount that is PLN 460,000. PLN 350,000 was donated by ArcelorMittal Poland, and PLN 100,000 was provided by the Municipal Office in Dąbrowa Górnicza. PLN 10,000 came from Municipal HQs of the State Fire Service’s own resources. The other half of the total cost of the fire engine was financed from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Katowice.

‘I’m glad that after a year of efforts to collect necessary funds and thanks to a major contribution made by ArcelorMittal Poland, we finally managed to buy a new fire engine for our unit in Dąbrowa Górnicza. This is a priceless investment for us,’ said Tomasz Kościow, Fire Brigade Chief in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

“Getting involved in the lives of local communities and responding to their needs is a key element of our corporate responsibility strategy,” said Karolina Muza from the Corporate Responsibility Office, ArcelorMittal Poland. “We are glad that we could support the purchase of such modern equipment which will serve both the city and our plants,” she added.

The new fire engine, capable of transporting 5 tons of water, is designed for a 6-man crew. The vehicle will be used mainly in the area of Dąbrowa Górnicza and Sławków, but if need be, it will also provide support in fire fighting actions in the whole region.
