HZM combined walls
The HZM wall is a combined system incorporating:
- HZM king piles as structural supports
- double AZ sheet piles as intermediate elements
Systemwise assembly of these basic elements yields a full range of standard solutions.
Structurally, the HZM king piles fulfill two different functions:
- as retaining members, they resist horizontal loads resulting from earth and hydrostatic pressures
- as bearing piles, they transfer vertical loads into the ground.
The intermediate sheet piles have only an earth-retaining and load-transfer function and they may be shorter than the HZM king piles.
The range of sectional combinations of the HZM System is characterized by loadings which
can not be covered by conventional sheet piling. Depending on the structural combination
and grade of steel adopted, bending moments up to 9000 kNm/m can be safely resisted.
The outstanding feature of this combination is the extensive range of possible combinations
using the entire AZ sheet pile offer.
