ArcelorMittal is striving to match its offer to the requirements of its professional partners, and the latest proof of this success is the high demand for the AZ 38-700 sheet pile section. This section is being used increasingly in quite large structures, like quay walls with deep dredge levels, and in very dense soils. These projects were in the past mostly executed with stronger sheet piles, like the AZ 48 section. Taking into consideration the feedback from several driving contractors and project owners, our R&D improved the existing shape. It will meet the requirements for large sheet pile sections, which can be hot rolled up to 31 m, in high steel grades, and will allow our customers to drive this new shape in longer lengths into more compact soils.
 

A first step into this direction is to optimize the geometry of the section to stiffen the transition flange / web of the sheet pile, keeping the same thickness of the flange and the width of the sheet pile. Close to the flange, the thickness of the web is increased. The result will yield a new section, the AZ 39-700, with ‘reinforced shoulders’ similar to the AZ 48, which replaces the existing AZ 38-700. This new AZ 39-700 will be available in January 2008, and provides a higher section modulus W_x, and a stiffer driving element.

ArcelorMittal will monitor the feedback of the new AZ 39-700 and if required, continue adapting this highly competitive sheet pile section to the requirements of our customers.

La constante évolution de la gamme de palplanches laminée à chaud d'ArcelorMittal s'efforce de répondre au mieux aux exigences de ses divers partenaires, pour preuve le succès de l'AZ 38-700, dont la demande ne cesse de croître. Ce profil est de plus en plus utilisé dans les ouvrages importants, tels que les murs de quai avec de profonds niveaux de dragage, et dans des sols très denses, aux dépens de l'AZ 48 jusqu'alors utilisé dans ce type de projet.
 

Suite à de nombreuses réactions de la part d'entreprises de battage et maîtres d'ouvrages, notre département R&D a amélioré le profil existant. Ce nouveau profil AZ 39‑700 répond mieux au besoin de profils rigides de grande longueur. Il peut être laminé en des longueurs de laminage maximum équivalente à 31 m, dans des nuances d'acier élevées. Il permettra le fonçage de longueur plus importante dans des sols encore plus compacts.
 

Partant du profil AZ 38-700 existant, la première étape a été d'en optimiser la géométrie afin de renforcer la liaison âme/ailes, tout en gardant l'épaisseur des ailes et sa largeur utile. Résultat, un profil très proche de l'AZ 48 avec des épaulettes renforcées, mais de grande largeur utile.
 

Disponible dès janvier 2008, ce nouveau profil appelé AZ 39-700 (voir tableau) remplacera l’actuel AZ 38-700. Ses qualités: un module de flexion plus élevé et une plus grande rigidité, d’où un comportement amélioré du fonçage.

ArcelorMittal ist stets bemüht, die Spundwandangebote an die Nachfrage unserer Kunden anzupassen, was sich im überragenden Erfolg der AZ 38-700 widerspiegelt. Die AZ 38-700 wird vermehrt bei der Errichtung großer Bauwerke eingesetzt, u. a. bei hohen Kaiwänden und bei kompakten Böden. In der Vergangenheit kam bei solchen Projekten vor allem die AZ 48 zum Einsatz. Unter Einbeziehung vieler Erfahrungen von Bauherren und Projektleitern mit diesem Produkt hat unsere Entwicklungsabteilung die Geometrie der AZ 38-700 modifiziert. Dieses abgewandelte Profil kann wie gewohnt in hohen Stahlgüten und einer Maximallänge von 31 m gewalzt werden. Durch die Veränderung der Geometrie und dadurch verbesserte Rammbarkeit bei großen Längen und kompakten Böden können die Anforderungen größerer Bauvorhaben noch besser erfüllt werden.

 

Der erste Schritt in die geforderte Richtung ist die Erhöhung der Steifigkeit im Flansch- / Stegbereich, welche durch eine Verstärkung in diesem Bereich realisiert wird. Die Wandstärke des Steges wird im Übergangsbereich zum Flansch durch das Walzen von „verstärkten Schultern“ erhöht, welche sich schon bei der AZ 48 bewährt haben. Die so entstehende neue Spundwand ist ab Januar 2008 mit erhöhtem Widerstandsmoment W_x und verbesserter Steifigkeit unter dem Namen AZ 39-700 erhältlich.
